EVALUATION AND COMPARISON of ARTERIAL SYSTEM PERFORMANCE WITH SOME INTERSECTIONS CONTROLLED BY ISOLATED AND COORDINATED SYSTEM (CASE ON JALAN GATOT SUBROTO BARAT, DENPASAR CITY, BALI)

There are many ways to controll a junction, such as with priority intersection (fixed priority), general variable priority, signelized intersection dan roundabout.. Controlling the junction can be done by adjust it’s geometric condition, traffic intensity, distance between two junctions and the environment condition. In controlling an intersection with traffic light signal, can be done either with individual system (isolated), coordination system (coordinated) or the combination of traffic light system with digital technical like digital camera and so on. Controlling a junction with isolated or coordinated system will give an effective and efficient effect if applied at the right place and condition. The aiming of this research are ;

  1. to evaluate performance of arterial that contain of few signalized intersection that controlled by isolated system.
  2. to evaluate performance of arterial like number 1 above, with controlled by coordinated system and make a comparison between the two system (isolated and coordinated).
The research take location at Denpasar, as long Jalan Gatot Subroto Barat with three intersections (A,B and C), with the distance between junctions are AB : 1021 m dan BC : 533 m. Jalan Gatot Subroto is a secondary arterial. Isolated system analysis helped by SIDRA software, and the coordinated system by TRANSYT software. The research results show that the intersection performance with isolated system increase from existing condition. The performance increasing at Kebo Iwa junction are for 26% ; 24% ; 14% at the morning, noon and afternoon successively, at Buluh Indah junction for 23% ; 22% ; 20% and at Pidada junction for 12% ; 12% ; 0.3%. At the coordinated system, performance of the system increase for 10% ; 5% and 1% at the morning, noon and afternoon successively. The comparison of the system show that journey time at a individual system relatively same with the journey time at coordinated system. At coordinated system for longer link, arterial journey time different from individual system, but at very small number. At coordinated system for shorter link, show that there are more effective and efficient performance if compared with individual system.
